Ease cancer treatment restrictions for Arogyasri patients : YSRCP

YSR Congress NTR District Doctors' Wing president, Dr. Ambati Naga Radha Krishna Yadav, has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to relax restrictions for cancer patients under the Arogyasri health scheme, allowing them to seek treatment at hospitals of their choice once their procedure is approved by the tumor board.

He highlighted the rigid policies that currently restrict patient mobility, causing immense hardship for those requiring long-term care. "Once a treatment is approved, patients should not have to face insurmountable hurdles in switching hospitals. Many are struggling with transfers, which can be devastating for those in critical need of continuous care," he stated.

Dr. Radha Krishna emphasized that cancer patients often rely on family support, sometimes necessitating a move to another city or district. However, the lack of flexibility in the current system forces many to remain in designated hospitals, even when a transfer would be beneficial.

He also pointed out that weak oversight in certain hospitals has led to unnecessary treatments, underscoring the need for standardized guidelines and stricter monitoring. "The Andhra Pradesh government should act swiftly to address these issues," he urged.

"Patients should have the right to change hospitals or treatment locations once the tumor board has sanctioned their procedure. This would ensure they receive the best possible care without added stress and hardship."

Dr. Radha Krishna called upon the NDA coalition government to prioritize the well-being of cancer patients and introduce policy reforms that allow greater flexibility under the Arogyasri scheme. He stressed that easing restrictions would greatly benefit those battling life-threatening illnesses, ensuring they receive timely and effective medical care.
