Andhra Pradesh Government Abolishes Garbage Tax, Issues Gazette Notification
On
The Andhra Pradesh government has officially abolished the garbage tax imposed during the tenure of the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) administration. The government had already issued an order canceling the tax, effective from December 31 of the previous year.
Following an amendment to the Municipal Act, the state has now released a gazette notification confirming the removal of the tax.
With this decision, there will no longer be a garbage tax in Andhra Pradesh. Since the introduction of the tax by the YSRCP government, opposition leaders had consistently criticized the move.
The issue also became a key point during election campaigns, with leaders of the coalition promising to repeal the tax if voted into power. Keeping their election promise, the newly formed coalition government has now officially revoked the garbage tax.
