AP Government Introduces New Guidelines for Building Permits

The Andhra Pradesh government has released new guidelines for building permits under the Self-Certification Scheme. According to the updated regulations, all urban local bodies across the state will now be responsible for issuing construction permits, except in the jurisdiction of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The authority to grant permissions, previously held by Urban Development Authorities, has been transferred to local urban bodies.

For constructions not exceeding 300 square meters, owners can now self-certify their building plans and submit applications directly. The government has also extended this provision to architects, engineers, and town planners, allowing them to apply on behalf of owners. Additionally, licensed technical personnel can verify and upload building plans to the official portal. However, this relaxation applies only to residential buildings. The portal’s regulations have been simplified to facilitate the online submission of plans.

The government introduced these measures to boost the real estate sector in the state. As part of the "Speed of Doing Business" initiative, the self-certification process has been implemented to streamline building permit approvals. The online building permission system also includes strict enforcement measures, stating that any violations will result in stringent action against property owners.

The guidelines were officially released by Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration Department.
