AP High Court Makes Key Remarks on Social Media Posts

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has made significant observations regarding social media posts, stating that while individuals engage in personal vendettas through online comments, it is ultimately social media platforms that benefit from such activities. The bench emphasized the need to curb offensive and inappropriate posts on social media.
The court clarified that while the law permits individuals to express their opinions freely, it does not allow for the publication of obscene or defamatory content that tarnishes the reputation of others. These remarks were made during the hearing of an anticipatory bail petition filed by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) social media in-charge Sajjala Bhargav Reddy on Friday.
The High Court directed the government to submit details of the measures being taken to prevent offensive posts on social media. The next hearing has been scheduled for the 27th of this month.
Notably, cases have been registered against Sajjala Bhargav Reddy and others for allegedly posting derogatory and obscene content against the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, several ministers, and their family members on social media.
