BJP Ends 32-Year Drought in Delhi's Shahdara, Chandrababu Naidu Played Key Role

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in Delhi’s Shahdara constituency for the first time in 32 years, following a campaign by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. BJP candidate Sanjay Goel won the seat by a margin of 5,000 votes in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections.

The last time BJP won from Shahdara was in 1993, when Ram Niwas Goel was elected. Since then, Congress won the seat consecutively in the 1998, 2003, and 2008 elections. In 2013, the Shiromani Akali Dal secured victory, followed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2015 and 2020 elections.

Ahead of the elections, on February 2, Chandrababu Naidu campaigned in Shahdara to support BJP candidate Sanjay Goel. Following the vote counting yesterday, Goel emerged victorious, marking BJP’s return to power in the constituency after three decades. BJP leaders and supporters celebrated the significant electoral comeback.
