The Capital News

The Srisailam reservoir is witnessing a substantial inflow of floodwater, with the current rate recorded at 2,46,965 cusecs. Meanwhile, the outflow has reached 31,784 cusecs. The reservoir’s full water level stands at 885 feet, and it has now reached 858.40 feet. This surge has led to the cessation of power generation at the right bank hydro power plant, although the left bank hydropower station continues to generate electricity.

In response to the rising water levels, irrigation authorities have opened three gates of the Sunkesula reservoir, releasing 500 cusecs of water into the KC canal and another 500 cusecs into the Srisailam reservoir. Officials have issued warnings to residents of low-lying areas to remain vigilant as a significant flood wave approaches from the Tungabhadra reservoir upstream.

In contrast, the Godavari river is experiencing a slight decrease in flood levels. Despite this, the first danger alert remains in effect at the Dhavaleshwaram Cotton Barrage, where water levels persist at 13.60 feet, prompting the complete lifting of 175 gates. Officials have released 12.55 lakh cusecs of floodwater downstream.

The RDS dam in Kurnool has also been inundated, yet farmers in the region are preparing to plant rice. In the Chintoor division, the floodwaters continue to rage, exacerbated by persistent rains. Both the Godavari and Sabari rivers are flowing robustly, with flood victims seeking refuge in resettlement centers. Authorities have been distributing rice, vegetables, and other essential food items to those affected.

Additionally, medical camps have been established in all the inundated villages to provide necessary aid and support.
