The Telangana State Cabinet has approved the comprehensive caste census and SC classification reports, marking a historic move in the State’s governance. Addressing the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy asserted that this decision would go down in the history of the country and put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement a similar caste census nationwide.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that the demand for a caste census would now gain momentum across all states. He stated that Telangana had conducted its own caste survey after the 2011 Census, in contrast to the BRS-led government in 2014, which he alleged had failed to provide concrete data.
The CM clarified that the caste census was not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring justice for 76 percent of BCs, SCs, and minorities in the state. CM Revanth Reddy declared that conducting a caste census was a historic step backed by a thorough survey.
He dismissed BRS from the equation and questioned whether the opposition leader should participate in the House discussions. He also pointed out that the government had formed a commission on BC reservations following court directives, reaffirming that any decision taken would be in accordance with judicial guidelines.
