Wrong Release Timing of Rajamouli’s Product?
The release of four new films on Friday created a buzz at the box office, though none managed to deliver unanimous acclaim.
The release of four new films on Friday created a buzz at the box office, though none managed to deliver unanimous acclaim. Alongside these films, the documentary RRR: Behind and Beyond made its way to theaters. However, its limited screen count prevented it from reaching a wider audience, raising questions about whether people would pay ₹200 for content more suited for OTT platforms.
Despite these challenges, the 1-hour-40-minute documentary offered a delightful experience for fans of Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, and Rajamouli. It delved into the making of RRR, showcasing rare behind-the-scenes footage, on-set visuals, and interviews with the crew.
Highlights included Ram Charan’s intense police station fight, Jr. NTR’s dramatic tiger encounter, the jaw-dropping interval scene with animals leaping from the truck, the making of the iconic “Naatu Naatu” song, and the green-screen techniques used in the climax.
The decision to release the documentary in limited screens seemed intentional, targeting a niche audience rather than aiming for massive theatrical collections. However, there’s speculation that RRR: Behind and Beyond could become a blockbuster if it transitions to OTT platforms.
On the flip side, some of the critics think that the documentary has been aimed at the wrong time. The film industry is currently centered around the Sandhya theatre stampede incident and the subsequent developments. Most of the films that were released after Pushpa 2 could not get enough attention. Especially, after the arrest of Allu Arjun, the media’s attention is also centered on the cast. Amidst all this, many does not know that the documentary had a theatrical release. It could be intentional that the makers did not market this but to some extent, the wrong release timing is also a reason for the documentary not being received grandly at theatres.
The documentary is now coming on Netflix on the 27th of this month. Let us see if it becomes the trending topic after the release.
