Jagan slams Chandrababu for fee reimbursement failures, neglecting students

Former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly criticized the Chandrababu Naidu-led government

Former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly criticized the Chandrababu Naidu-led government for failing to implement fee reimbursement schemes and alleged neglect of the education sector. Jagan highlighted the plight of students forced to abandon their studies due to unpaid fees in J. Panguluru, Ongole district.

Sharing the story of a student compelled to work as a wage laborer, Jagan expressed his anguish, stating, "The Chandrababu government has not only failed to reimburse fees but has also dismantled transformative initiatives in education, forcing students and parents into financial distress." Jagan accused the government of canceling schemes like Amma Vodi, English Medium education, and programs such as TOEFL from Grade 3, CBSE to IB curriculum transition, and distribution of tablets with Byju’s content for Grade 8 students.

He also alleged a lack of investment in school infrastructure under the Nadu-Nedu initiative, further undermining educational progress. Jagan pointed to the discontinuation of the Vasathi Deevena and Vidya Deevena schemes, which previously ensured quarterly cash deposits into mothers' accounts. "Our government spent Rs 18,000 crore on these schemes, believing in education's power to transform lives. Under Chandrababu, arrears in fee reimbursements now exceed Rs 3,900 crore, leaving 11 lakh students in distress," he said.

The former Chief Minister alleged that students are being denied entry to colleges and certificates due to unpaid fees, forcing parents to take loans or sell assets to support their children's education. "AP, once a hub of educational excellence, now faces a grim reality where students are leaving schools to work as laborers," Jagan remarked.

Jagan further accused the Chandrababu government of prioritizing scams in sand, liquor, and privatization over the welfare of students. He demanded the immediate release of fee reimbursements and accommodation allowances, emphasizing the need to restore trust and support for students in the State.
