A low-pressure area has formed in the Indian Ocean and the southeastern Bay of Bengal as of Saturday, near the equator. It is expected to move west-northwest and enter the South Bay of Bengal by the 25th of this month, where it may strengthen into a depression. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that it will approach the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka by the 27th. However, many models suggest that the depression couldintensify into a cyclone. Whether it will make landfall as a cyclone or weaken to become a severe cyclonic storm remains uncertain.
Due to the influence of the low pressure, scattered rains are expected in the South Coast and Rayalaseema over the next 24 hours, while dry weather will continue in the North Coast, according to the Meteorological Department. As the low pressure strengthens and moves closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, an increase in rainfall is anticipated in the coastal regions and Rayalaseema starting on the 27th.
The Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Center has reported that heavy rains are likely in Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts on the 27th. On the 28th, heavy rainfall is expected in Anakapalle, Kakinada, Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts, and on the 29th, heavy rains are forecasted again in Anakapalle, Kakinada, Nellore, and Tirupati districts.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Agency has advised farmers harvesting paddy to remain vigilant, and residents in low-lying and hilly areas should be cautious due to the potential for rain as the cyclone approaches the coast.
