Case Registered Against Sri Reddy in Guntur
Guntur: A case has been filed in Guntur against film actress Sri Reddy for making inappropriate comments supporting the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and its former Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, while targeting leaders from the TDP, Janasena, and BJP. Former corporator Dasara Jyothy has lodged a complaint against Sri Reddy, stating that action should be taken for her derogatory remarks about Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and their family members. As a result, the city police have opened an investigation into the matter.
Additionally, a case has been registered in the East Godavari district against Sri Reddy for her inappropriate comments about Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha. Bommur police initiated this case based on a complaint made by TDP AP Women General Secretary Majji Padma. Padma accused Sri Reddy of spreading false propaganda against alliance leaders on social media during the YSRCP’s rule. The police have charged Sri Reddy under sections 196, 353(2), 79 BNS, and 67 of the IT Act (2000-2008). Majji Padma claimed that her previous complaints were ignored while the YSRCP government was in power and has demanded Sri Reddy’s immediate arrest.
It is known that Sri Reddy, an actress and supporter of YSRCP, made disparaging comments on social media about opposition leaders including Chandrababu, Nara Lokesh, Pawan Kalyan, and Vangalapudi Anitha. Critics noted that she has changed her tone now that the political landscape has shifted, and there have been calls for her accountability. Recently, Sri Reddy posted an open letter on social media directed at Minister Nara Lokesh.
In the letter, she expressed, "Lokesh Anna, I am very happy… My family has strong connections with Vijayawada. The designation of Amaravati as the capital has brought us great joy, and it has also increased the value of our home there. My family members have voted for TDP. You are commendable in certain matters. My family has apologized to me in a video and asked me to reach out to you directly, which is why I am writing this open letter.
I have already apologized to your party, activists, and the courageous women of Janasena and their families. I acknowledge that I have spoken harshly in the past and therefore apologize once again. The discussions over the past ten days reveal how many people I have hurt. Having taken an oath as a devotee of Lord Venkateswara, I recognize that I made a mistake by expressing myself inappropriately. I extend my apologies to Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh, their families, the Home Minister, Andhra Jyoti, ITDP, TDP workers, social media, Janasena media, the courageous women, and to PK... I am sincerely asking for forgiveness from all of you.
Even if the YSRCP comes to power again, my mindset will not waver. I promise not to use vulgar language against anyone in the future. I now understand the repercussions of my actions. My family and I have already endured considerable suffering. We have children at home who are supposed to get married soon. Physical suffering will eventually heal, but I don’t want my actions to bring more trouble to others. Please help my family... Free us from this distress. I also apologize to everyone in the film industry, including Chiranjeevi and Nagababu. Sunitha and Sharmila have also expressed their apologies," Sri Reddy noted in her letter. She acknowledged her failures in both the film industry and politics.
