India all-rounder Axar Patel praised the new T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, saying he is a captain who gives bowlers the freedom to execute their plans. Patel also mentioned that the team will focus on maximizing its batting combinations in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
Suryakumar and the Indian team had a successful start to the three-match series by defeating hosts Sri Lanka by 43 runs in the first T20I. Axar stated, “I played in the last Australia series with Surya bhai (as captain). I know that he is a bowlers’ captain. He gives you a free hand to decide first.
Whenever you get hit, he comes and says that it was a good ball. He keeps giving you inputs. As a player, there is a good bond with him.” He also mentioned the experience of playing under Suryakumar in the five-match T20I series against Australia and praised the captain’s support and guidance.
Regarding the batting lineup, Axar highlighted the team’s focus on maximizing left and right-hand batting options for strategic advantage against the opposition’s bowling lineup. Axar also shared that the new coaching staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir has emphasized minimal changes in the team’s approach and operation.
Overall, he expressed confidence in the team’s consistency and mentioned that while the coach and captain may change, the core team and players will remain consistent, with the focus on continuing to play in the same successful manner.
