Heavy rains expected in Andhra Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh over the next 24 hours

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh over the next 24 hours due to a severe low-pressure system in the southwest Bay of Bengal. The low pressure, which is currently positioned in the west-central and adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify into a depression and move northwards, bringing torrential rains to several districts in the State.

The areas most likely to experience heavy rainfall include Kakinada, Alluri, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. The department also predicted strong winds along the coast, with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, reaching up to 60 km per hour. As a result, third-level danger warnings have been issued for ports along the coast, from Kalingapatnam to Machilipatnam. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next two days due to rough sea conditions caused by the heavy rains.

The Meteorological Department has urged the public to stay alert and advised farmers to take necessary precautions in agricultural activities. In the past 24 hours, Mentada in Vizianagaram district recorded the highest rainfall of 6 centimeters, while moderate rains affected other districts such as Srikakulam, Nellore, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Tirupati.
