Delhi High Court issues summons to media houses in Jagan's defamation suit
The Delhi High Court has issued summons in a defamation case filed by YSR Congress chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The suit seeks a permanent and mandatory injunction and Rs 100 crore in damages against certain media outlets for publishing defamatory articles allegedly linking him to indictment proceedings involving the Adani Group in the United States.
Represented by senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, alongside advocates Amit Agrawal, Sahil Raveen, and Rahul Kukreja, Jagan's legal team argued that the allegations were baseless. The articles in question reportedly referenced a US indictment but failed to name Reddy or provide evidence of any notice being served to him.
In its initial response, the Court has issued summons in the main suit, a notice on the interim application seeking the removal of the articles, and warned the defendants against publishing further defamatory content. Failure to comply, the Court noted, would result in legal consequences.
The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for December 16, 2024, as the case moves forward amidst significant public and political interest.
