The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that it will remove the photo of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from the Pattadaru pass books and issue new ones with the official State seal to landowners. This decision comes as part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made during the elections, and responding to the public’s wishes. The previous administration reportedly spent Rs 15 crore on printing Jagan’s photos on the pass books.
In contrast, the new pass books will feature a QR code that, when scanned, will provide property details and a map to the property’s location. Officials have already shown a sample pass book with the royal seal to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Additionally, the government has criticized the previous administration for spending Rs 650 crore on a land re-survey that included placing Jagan’s images on boundary stones. Despite the Centre not mandating the use of granite stones for such purposes, the former government prepared 77 lakh granite stones featuring Jagan’s image, at a further cost of Rs 15 crore. In total, the government claims that Rs 700 crore of public funds were wasted due to the former Chief Minister’s obsession with having his image on official materials.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to find a way to utilize the granite stones effectively
