Key decision of Revant Sarkar.. Justice Madan B Lokur as Chairman of Electricity Commission

The Telangana State Government has appointed Justice Madan B Lokur as the Chairman of the Electricity Inquiry Commission. The Supreme Court responded to a petition filed by former CM KCR regarding the appointment of the Commission’s Chairman and made suggestions and recommendations.

Following this, Justice Narasimha Reddy, the previous Chairman, announced his withdrawal from the inquiry committee. The state government has now made it clear that a new chairman will be appointed for the commission. Formerly a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Lokur previously served as the Chief Justice of the AP High Court in 2011.

He will now be leading an inquiry into previous electricity deals. Justice Narasimha Reddy was the previous chairman of the commission investigating power irregularities during the previous government’s tenure.

He had requested former CM KCR to appear before the commission, but KCR did not comply, resulting in a legal battle that ended in Narasimha Reddy’s withdrawal from the inquiry committee.

Now, with the appointment of Justice Lokur, it remains to be seen how the inquiry will proceed. With the commission’s investigation nearing completion, questions arise about whether Justice Lokur will continue from where it left off, start the investigation anew, or summon KCR to appear before the commission, a topic which was contentious during the previous chairman’s tenure.
