Puri Jagannadh Gears Up for Comeback with Beggar

After the setback of Double iSmart, director Puri Jagannadh is wasting no time in bouncing back. He has already accelerated pre-production on his next film, tentatively titled Beggar, an intense action thriller that’s generating buzz for its powerful cast and tight shooting schedule.

Veteran actress Tabu and the versatile Radhika Apte have already been locked in for pivotal roles. Now, the latest reports suggest that Nivetha Thomas has been approached to play the hero’s wife — a role said to be central to the plot. While an official confirmation is pending, sources close to the actress say her response has been optimistic.

Nivetha, who recently garnered attention for 35 Chinna Katha Kadhu, is known for her ability to handle performance-heavy roles. Though not frequently cast in mainstream commercial parts, her involvement could add significant depth to the project — especially with Puri Jagannadh determined to return to form.

Beggar stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, and industry insiders reveal that the actor didn’t hesitate to accept the role despite Puri's recent box office record — a testament to his confidence in the script. Sethupathi has reportedly cleared space in his packed calendar to accommodate the film’s shoot, which is scheduled to wrap in just two months, echoing Puri’s earlier working style.

Aiming for a release in October or December 2025, the makers are yet to hold a formal pooja or launch event. It’s expected that a grand announcement will be made once all elements — including the complete cast — are finalized.
