Vidudala 2 Poses Threat To Vada Chennai 2?
The film industry believes in a lot of sentiments and one such sentiment is that when you attempt a sequel for a hit film, it is unlikely to become a hit.
The film industry believes in a lot of sentiments and one such sentiment is that when you attempt a sequel for a hit film, it is unlikely to become a hit. There are exemptions but most of the times, the myth has come true. Now, Vetrimaaran’s Vidudala 2 also proved this once again.
While the first part of Vidudala has become a decent hit, the second part carried some expectations in Telugu. However, the performance of Part 2 suggests that the anticipated magic hasn’t materialized, as evidenced by sluggish box-office collections. Several factors contributed to Part 2’s relatively lukewarm reception.
Unlike its predecessor, the sequel lacked depth and compelling drama. The extensive focus on Perumal’s life, played by Vijay Sethupathi, while detailed, introduced significant pacing issues. The romantic subplot with Manju Warrier fell short of making an impact, and the underutilization of Suri’s character, coupled with lengthy dialogues, repetitive scenes, and Ilaiyaraaja’s underwhelming music, added to its drawbacks.
This is now going to pose a threat to Vetrimaran’s vision to bring Vada Chennai 2 to the screens at the earliest. Vetrimaran already did the film titled Vada Chennai, a Tamil gangster drama which became a big hit in Tamil. There have been repeated requests about finishing the second part. Dhanush played the lead role in the film. Both Dhanush and Vetrimaran publicly confirmed that they will reunite for Vada Chennai 2 soon.
But, looking at the current scenario where Vetrimaran could not deliver a hit with Vidudala 2, it will push clouds on to the sequel of Vada Chennai. Vada Chennai has a lot of characters and back stories. It’s been a while since the first part was released. Now, there are huge expectations on the second part.
Vetrimaran might still be capable of pulling a success out of it but it is not very easy this time, especially after Vidudala 2 did not yield desired results. We have to see if Vetrimaran decides to break the myth or get carried away with it.
