SP chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged on Monday that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is trying to defame his party for vote bank politics ahead of Assembly by-polls. He stated that regardless of BJP’s actions, people have lost hope in the party and its “wipeout” is certain. He also alleged that the BJP’s approach towards Muslims is “undemocratic”. When asked about the Ayodhya rape case, Yadav mentioned that the BJP is conspiring before the by-elections and their aim has always been to defame the socialists.

He also expressed concerns about the undemocratic approach of the BJP towards Muslims. Yadav made these statements while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, also known as ‘Chhote Lohia’, on his birth anniversary.

Referring to the Ayodhya incident, Yadav raised the issue of a revised law in the BJP government stating that if a crime with a provision of more than seven years of punishment has been committed, then a DNA test should be conducted. Yadav had sparked controversy with his demand for a DNA test of the two men accused of raping a 12-year-old girl who became pregnant.

In response, the BJP accused the SP of defending a “paedophile” and showing a “boys will be boys” mentality. Yadav further alleged that officials are under so much pressure that they cannot deliver justice. He accused the BJP of discriminating and stated that the public has lost hope in them.

Lastly, Yadav targeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stating that if a yogi does not believe in democracy, then he cannot be a yogi. He referred to an incident in Hathras and the statement given by the chief minister in the state Assembly regarding a groping incident in Gomti Nagar, emphasizing concerns about biased actions by the police and the administration.
