In the wake of escalating floodwaters at the Srisailam project, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is set to undertake a crucial visit to Srisailam on Thursday. Scheduled amidst heavy rains and swelling reservoirs, the visit will feature a solemn Jala Harati ceremony at the iconic Srisailam project. As per reports, the Srisailam reservoir continues to witness a surge in water levels, prompting authorities to raise three gates by 10 feet to manage the inflow. Currently, the inflow stands at 4,60,040 cusecs, while outflow has been recorded at 1,41,560 cusecs.
The water level, which normally reaches its full capacity at 885 feet, has currently risen to 880.90 feet, with storage levels nearing 198.3623 TMCs out of its total capacity of 215.8070 TMCs. Operations at the Srisailam right and left hydropower stations remain active, ensuring continuous electricity generation even amidst the flood crisis.
The increased water flow has necessitated the release of water downstream towards Nagarjunasagar, drawing considerable attention from tourists flocking to witness the spectacle. Simultaneously, the Nagarjuna Sagar project is grappling with heavy inflows from Srisailam, currently measured at 81,634 cusecs.
Power generation efforts are underway with eight turbines in operation. The reservoir’s current water level stands at 590 feet, with its storage capacity showing 139.61 tmcs out of a total of 312 tmcs. Meanwhile, in Rajahmundry, relief is palpable as the Godavari floodwaters recede, prompting authorities to withdraw the second danger alert at the Dhavaleswaram cotton barrage.
While one danger warning remains in effect, the water level has significantly dropped to 14.70 feet. In a bid to manage the situation, authorities have fully lifted 175 gates, facilitating the release of 14 lakh cusecs of floodwater downstream
