The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday refused to grant anticipatory bail to CID additional superintendent of police (SP) Vijayapal in connection with the custodial torture case involving Undi MLA Raghurama Krishnam Raju. The court, after considering the arguments presented, decided against interim relief for the CID officer, citing the Supreme Court’s previous findings. The next hearing has been scheduled for August 20.
The case stems from an incident last month when MLA Raghurama Krishnam Raju, who had filed a complaint leading to the registration of a case by the Nagarapalem police, accused the CID officers of conspiring to murder him and stage the incident as a heart attack. The alleged conspiracy took place at the CID office in Guntur, where Raghurama claims that an attempt on his life was planned.
During a visit to the SP office in Guntur, Raghurama met with SP Satish Kumar, urging the immediate suspension of the accused CID officers. The MLA provided evidence to support his claims, implicating several senior officials, including CID chief and additional director general of police (ADG) PV Sunil Kumar, Intelligence Director General of Police (DGP) Sitharamanjaneu, former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, CID additional SP K Vijayapal, and the then Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) superintendent G Prabhavathi.
