KL Rahul could get released by Lucknow Super Giants before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will have to wait till the auction and they cannot sign him even if Rahul wants to join them. Here, we have a look at the reason behind it.
Will KL Rahul leave Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)? Is Rahul joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)? Will Rahul lead RCB in IPL 2025? The social media is flooded with the rumours of KL Rahul joining RCB before IPL 2025 and the fans are also hoping that the local boy finally makes his return to the franchise after 8 seasons.

Rahul’s stay with LSG is reportedly overand he will be released by the franchise before the IPL 2025 auction. RCB might have their eyes on Rahul if he is available. But there is no guarantee that they will be able to acquire him even if Rahul leaves LSG. RCB can’t bring in Rahul via trade and they will have to wait till the IPL 2025 auction.

There is a reason why Rahul can’t be traded to LSG before the auction even if he wants. It’s a mega-auction year and the players can only be traded when there is a mini-auction. A team undergoes many changes when there’s a mega-auction and they are only allowed to retain a certain number of players.

The trading window opens when there’s a mini-auction. There are no guarantees in an auction and the franchises have often missed out on buying players they had inked on. RCB can spend big money on Rahul in the auction but there is no surety that they will be able to buy him.

KL Rahul joined LSG before the IPL 2022 mega-auction for a huge sum of Rs 17 crore. They did make it to the second round of two IPL seasons but crashed out after losing the eliminators.

LSG had their worst-ever season in IPL 2024 and they finished at the seventh spot with 7 wins from 14 matches. The Lucknow-based franchise is likely to enter the mega-auction with the task of buying a new captain.
