Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has responded to the ongoing controversy sparked by remarks made by L&T Chief S.N. Subrahmanyan, who suggested a 90-hour work week and questioned how long one can sit idle at home looking at their spouse. Subrahmanyan’s statement, including his suggestion that employees should also work on Sundays, caused a stir on social media, prompting widespread criticism and comments from celebrities.
In response to the debate, Anand Mahindra expressed his personal take by highlighting his appreciation for spending time with his wife, whom he described as a wonderful person. “I enjoy looking at my wife,” Mahindra said, adding that the number of hours worked per week is less important than how effectively the work is completed.
Mahindra emphasized that productivity and efficiency matter more than merely increasing work hours. He further mentioned that, despite being busy as the chairman of a large company, he remains active on social media. Addressing skepticism from netizens about his frequent social media presence, Mahindra said some people criticize him for wasting time online. However, he clarified that his engagement on social media serves a purpose beyond mere interaction.
“I’m not on social media to make new friends. For me, it’s a powerful business tool,” Mahindra explained, noting that the platform enables him to receive feedback from millions of people on a single forum. He highlighted that he has over 11 million followers on Twitter, which gives him access to a broad spectrum of opinions and insights from users across the globe.
