Pithapuram constituency in Andhra Pradesh has been in the limelight ever since Janasena supremo Pawan Kalyan announced his candidature before the 2024 elections. TDP leader and ex-MLA Varma sacrificed his ticket for Pawan as part of NDA coalition. The strong coordination between both TDP and JSP and Varma’s solid clout among the locals played an instrumental role in ensuring a thumping victory for Pawan Kalyan.
Despite such a well-coordinated effort, Pithapuram constituency is not devoid of controversies after elections due to clashes between TDP and Janasena leaders. Several times in the last few months after the new government has formed, there have been instances of unnecessary conflicts between the two parties.
On Monday, another incident highlighted the strained relation between the two parties. During the formal meeting of NDA parties ahead of MLC elections, the supporters of TDP and Janasena involved in a needless skirmish at the venue over wearing of scarves (kanduvas). The incident happened right in front of Varma and other NDA representatives.
Graduate MLC nominee of NDA, Perabattula Rajasekhar donned the scarves of all three parties and attended the meeting. Janasena leader Kurumulla Rambabu objected that TDP supporters didn’t wear the scarves of Janasena. He pointed out that they appeared only with yellow scarves. This led to a huge argument among the supporters of both parties, leading to a big controversy.
TDP supporters expressed anger and frustration over Janasena leaders for their comments. The situation went out of control and all of them involved in a scuffle.
Varma alleged that some YCP coverts who jumped into Janasena with a malafide intention are trying to sow seeds of discontent between TDP and Janasena. It may be recollected that Varma was attacked by some miscreants after the election results. He alleged at that time that supporters of YSR Congress party who joined Janasena before elections resorted to these attacks.
