The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has provided compensation to the victims of the stampede that occurred in Tirupati on the night of January 8 during the issuance of Vaikunta Ekadashi festival tokens. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of six devotees and injuries to several others. On Saturday, TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu distributed compensation cheques to the injured victims.
As per the instructions of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, compensation cheques were handed over to seven victims at the SVIMS Director's chamber in the presence of Madanapalle MLA Shahjahan, Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani, Srikakulam MLA Bojjala Sudheer Reddy, Nagari MLA Gali BhanupraKash, TTD JEO V. Veera Brahmam, Tirupati District Collector Dr. N. Venkateshwar, and SVIMS Director Dr. R.V. Kumar.
Severely injured victims, Thimmakka from Narasapuram village in Ramapuram mandal, Annamayya district, and P. Eeswaramma from Gopalapatnam, Visakhapatnam district, received compensation of ₹5 lakh each. Additionally, five other injured victims were provided with compensation of ₹2 lakh each.
Speaking on the occasion, TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu informed the media that two committees have been formed with board directors to ensure compensation is delivered to the families of the six deceased devotees. A team comprising board directors Jyothula Nehru, Janga Krishnamurthy, Panabaka Lakshmi, Janaki Devi, Mahender Reddy, M.S. Raju, and G. Bhanuprakash Reddy will visit the affected families in Visakhapatnam and Narsipatnam regions.
Similarly, another committee has been constituted to provide compensation to victims' families residing near the Tamil Nadu and Kerala borders. This team includes Ramamurthy, Krishnamurthy, Vaidyanathan, Naresh Kumar, Shantharam, and Suchitra Ella.
