The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) voiced its full support for the Jamili elections Bill, also known as the One Nation-One Election Bill, during Tuesday’s session in the Lok Sabha. The TDP-backed legislation was brought up for discussion and voting for the first time in the new Parliament building, with the voting process conducted electronically under the guidance of the Lok Sabha Secretary General.
TDP MP and Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, along with TDP Parliamentary Party Leader Lavu Srikrishna Devaraya, welcomed the bill's introduction and emphasized its potential to enhance governance and reduce election-related expenses.
Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar highlighted the significant financial savings the Jamili elections could bring, noting that around Rs 6,000 crore was spent on the general elections based on media reports.
He remarked that simultaneous elections would streamline administrative efforts and increase voter turnout by an estimated 7 per cent. “Jamili elections will not only reduce the financial burden on the Election Commission and political parties but also foster efficient governance,” Chandrasekhar stated.
He underscored the need for nationwide adoption of the One Nation-One Election framework and assured that the TDP would align its actions with the vision of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Chandrasekhar also acknowledged that while there is still time for the Jamili elections to be implemented, the central government is preparing a robust legal framework to ensure its rollout.
TDP Parliamentary Party Leader Lavu Srikrishna Devaraya echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the bill is development-oriented and crucial for good governance. He stated, “The TDP supports the One Nation-One Election Bill wholeheartedly because it aligns with our commitment to fostering development and efficient governance in the country.”
