The elective services in government hospitals in Delhi remained closed on Tuesday as resident doctors continued their strike over the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

The strike, organized by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) and supported by resident doctors from government hospitals across the country, paralyzed services such as out-patient departments (OPDs) and non-emergency surgeries.

The strike was called to protest against the incident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. FORDA declared that the strike would continue until justice is served and their demands are met. Despite a meeting with Union health ministry officials on Monday, no resolution was reached, prompting FORDA to extend the strike into Tuesday.

FORDA president Aviral Mathur announced the extension of the strike after the unsuccessful meeting with the Union health minister’s team and emphasized that emergency services would continue despite the strike.
