Shakti Dubey tops UPSC 2024, Telugu states shine

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday declared the results of the Civil Services Examination 2024, selecting 1,009 candidates for appointments to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ central services.

Shakti Dubey emerged as the national topper. She cleared the exam with Political Science and International Relations as her optional subject, according to an official release from the Commission. Harshita Goyal, a B.Com graduate from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, stood second, also with Political Science and International Relations as her optional. The third rank was secured by Dongre Archit Parag, a B.Tech graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology, who opted for Philosophy as his optional subject.

The top 10 ranks were dominated by highly accomplished candidates from diverse academic backgrounds. Shah Margi Chirag secured the fourth position, followed by Akash Garg (5th), Komal Punia (6th), Ayushi Bansal (7th), Raj Krishna Jha (8th), Aditya Vikram Agarwal (9th), and Mayank Tripathi (10th).

Candidates from the Telugu-speaking States made a notable impact in this year's results. Sai Shivani secured the 11th rank, while Banna Venkatesh attained the 15th position. Other high-ranking Telugu candidates include Ravula Jai Simha Reddy (46th), Shravan Kumar Reddy (62nd), Sai Chaitanya Jadhav (68th), Chetana Reddy (110th), Shiva Ganesh Reddy (119th), and Srikanth Reddy (151st).

Of the total 1,009 candidates selected, category-wise distribution includes 335 from the General quota, 109 from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 318 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 160 from Scheduled Castes (SC), and 87 from Scheduled Tribes (ST). Among them, 725 are men and 284 are women.

The list also features 45 candidates with benchmark disabilities, 12 orthopedically handicapped, 8 visually impaired, 16 hearing impaired, and 9 with multiple disabilities.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages, Preliminary, Mains, and Interview — to recruit officers for various central services. The Preliminary Examination for 2024 was held on June 16 last year, with 9,92,599 applicants, out of which 5,83,213 candidates appeared. Following the preliminary round, 14,627 candidates qualified for the Main Examination held in September. Subsequently, 2,845 candidates advanced to the Personality Test or Interview round.
