CM Revanth responds to Rahul Gandhi’s call for Rohith Vemula Act

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has officially responded to AICC leader Rahul Gandhi’s heartfelt letter urging the implementation of the Rohith Vemula Act. Taking to Twitter, CM Revanth expressed that he was deeply moved by Rahul Gandhi’s words and reaffirmed his commitment to building a future rooted in social justice.

The Chief Minister, currently on an official visit to Japan, shared that he read Rahul’s letter at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the historic city of Hiroshima. "Rahul Gandhi’s thoughts are a reflection of his unwavering dedication to social justice, the nation, and its people," Revanth wrote. "His ideas have inspired me, and we will move forward with this spirit to create a future our state can be proud of."

Rahul Gandhi’s letter, addressed to CM Revanth on Monday, called for the enactment of the Rohith Vemula Act in Telangana. Highlighting the tragic deaths of students like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi, and Darshan Solanki, Rahul stressed the urgent need to prevent such incidents caused by caste-based discrimination in educational institutions. He urged the Telangana government to take the lead in enacting legislation aimed at protecting students from institutional bias and harassment.

Rahul has long championed the need for the Rohith Vemula Act, especially following the nationwide outcry after Rohith's death. As Leader of the Opposition at the time, he had pledged to fight for a law that would address systemic caste discrimination in higher education. Rahul reiterated that the act would serve as a preventive and corrective framework across the country, beginning with Congress-ruled states.

Just two days ago, Rahul had written a similar appeal to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Now, with Telangana also in focus, his outreach has gained momentum within the party and among social justice advocates.

Congress leaders have voiced support for the act, calling it a vital step toward safeguarding marginalized students in universities and educational spaces. Sources indicate that discussions around the Rohith Vemula Act are likely to gain traction in Telangana soon.

If enacted, Telangana would become one of the first states in India to introduce such a law, potentially setting a precedent for others to follow.
