Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a significant relief package for various groups, including students, police personnel, government employees, and small contractors, by approving the release of pending bills amounting to ₹6,700 crore. The decision was made during an emergency financial review meeting held on Saturday in view of the Sankranti festival.
State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, who rushed from Anantapur to Vijayawada to attend the crucial meeting, presented the status of pending bills to the Chief Minister. Despite concerns raised by officials about the challenges of releasing funds under current fiscal constraints, Chandrababu Naidu directed the immediate clearance of pending dues, amounting to ₹6,700 crore.
"CM Chandrababu Naidu has approved the release of ₹6,700 crore as a festive gesture for various sections, including students, police personnel, employees, and small contractors," said Payyavula Keshav.
Outlining the details of the payments, Keshav stated that ₹1,300 crore would be disbursed to government employees, covering:
₹519 crore under GPF payments
₹214 crore as an installment for police personnel's surrender leave arrears
₹300 crore for CPS payments
₹265 crore for TDS-related dues
Additionally, ₹788 crore will be released for fee reimbursement arrears benefiting 6.5 lakh students. Small contractors with bills under ₹10 lakh, totaling around 26,000 individuals, will receive payments amounting to ₹586 crore. Amaravati farmers will be paid ₹241 crore in pending lease payments.
Further, ₹100 crore has been allocated for approximately 6,000 small vendors, ₹500 crore for NTR healthcare services, and ₹500 crore for the power sector.
Payyavula Keshav further alleged that the previous government, led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accumulated ₹10 lakh crore in debts, creating a financial burden on the state. “Despite inheriting a heavily indebted state, CM Chandrababu Naidu is working tirelessly to fulfill promises and put the state back on the path of progress. We are ensuring that no institution comes to a standstill while striving to accelerate Andhra Pradesh's development,” Keshav added.
