Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has declared that the state provides the highest pension in the country, benefiting 64 lakh people with an expenditure of Rs 33,000 crore. Distributing pensions to beneficiaries on Saturday, the Chief Minister personally visited their homes, emphasizing the government's commitment to social welfare.
He highlighted that the pension amount had been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, a significant jump from the Rs 200 pension given in earlier years. In contrast to the previous government, which raised the amount to Rs 3,000 over five years, he stated that his administration had increased it to Rs 4,000 at once.
Naidu also announced enhanced support for disabled individuals, raising their pension to Rs 6,000 per month. Additionally, kidney and thalassemia patients now receive Rs 10,000 monthly, while those bedridden for extended periods due to illness are granted a one-time assistance of Rs 15,000.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of family values in Indian society, urging people to take responsibility for orphaned children. Criticizing the previous administration, he lamented the alleged destruction caused in the last five years, stating that even he struggled to comprehend the extent of the damage.
He called for governance that connects with the people, insisting that pensions must be delivered to beneficiaries at their doorsteps. “Light should come into the lives of the poor -that is my aspiration,” Naidu affirmed. He also stressed that officials must step out of air-conditioned offices and engage with the public directly to understand their hardships.
