The Andhra Pradesh Group 1 Mains Exams have been postponed. The group 1 exams have been postponed due to the recent demand from candidates to be selected in the ratio of 1:100 to the mains. This has resulted in the postponement of Notification No: 12/2023 by APPSC. Originally, the exams were scheduled to be held from September 2 to 9. As the exam dates approached, candidates grew more anxious.

Another reason for the postponement is the three-week gap between the Group 2 and Group 1 exams conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission. According to the Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission, Pradeep Kumar, the exams have been postponed in response to the candidates’ requests.

The preliminary examination was conducted in 301 examination centers in 18 districts across the state on March 17 this year. The results were released on 12th April. Out of 1,48,881 candidates who applied for the Group 1 exam, 91,463 wrote the exam. However, only 4,496 candidates were allowed to write the mains at the rate of 1:50. Consequently, there have been demands from candidates and leaders for the mains selection to be in the ratio of 1:100.

The recruitment process is ongoing for the filling of all 81 Group 1 posts, and despite the earlier decision to conduct the mains exams in September, the latest mains have been postponed. In the APPSC Group 1 mains exam pattern, candidates who qualify in the prelims will have to write 7 papers, including two qualifying papers and five merit papers.

The qualifying papers include English and Telugu, each carrying 150 marks. Paper 1 consists of General Essays, also carrying 150 marks. The second paper will be on the History of India, the third paper on Indian Constitution and Governors, the fourth paper on Economy, and the fifth paper on Science and Technology. Each of these papers will carry 150 marks. Candidates must be qualified in English and Telugu papers, and the merit list will be based on the marks obtained in the other five papers.
