The ruling DMK criticized the “step-motherly treatment” given to Tamil Nadu in the Union budget 2024-25 and announced a state-wide agitation against the Centre over the issue.
The party declared a “massive agitation” in all district headquarters on Saturday against the BJP-led central government, which they believe has mistreated Tamil Nadu in the union budget. In a party statement, it was mentioned that Chief Minister M K Stalin’s requests for funds for Metro Rail and flood relief have been completely ignored, while some other states have been generously granted disaster relief funds.
The party expressed that a country’s budget should ensure equitable development by allocating funds fairly to all states and that the government’s policy announcement should aim at ensuring the well-being of every citizen.
The release also stated that this year’s union budget doesn’t seem to be meant for the entire country, but rather aimed at saving their (BJP) government by being generous to select states, and ignoring those like Tamil Nadu that significantly contribute towards national development.
