Tension erupts at Telangana Assembly over ban on OU protests
Chaos unfolded at the Telangana Assembly on Monday as police arrested several BRS activists attempting to storm the premises in protest against the government's ban on demonstrations at Osmania University (OU). Despite heavy security arrangements, the activists staged a dharna near the Assembly, voicing their opposition to the controversial Government Order (GO).
BRS and student union members, demanding the revocation of the ban, marched towards the Assembly, raising slogans against the government's decision. A confrontation ensued between the protesters and security personnel, leading to multiple arrests.
BRS leaders condemned the police action, accusing the ruling party of suppressing democratic dissent. They alleged that the government's policies were against public interests and that the police had unjustly interfered in what they claimed was a peaceful protest. Simultaneously, tension escalated at Osmania University as student groups launched protests against the government’s decision. Anticipating unrest, the police deployed additional forces on the campus to contain the situation and prevent further disruptions.
