Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, who was elected on a BRS ticket before joining the Congress party, made remarks critical of the government, sparking political tension. During a recent interview, Nagender discussed the Formula E car race in Hyderabad, which has come under scrutiny, particularly involving BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). While an investigation regarding KTR’s involvement is ongoing, Nagender praised the event, saying, “The Formula E race enhanced Hyderabad’s brand image, and there is no doubt that it drew global attention to the city.”
However, Nagender remained cautious about allegations of corruption, stating, “Whether there was corruption in the event or not cannot be determined at this moment. KTR claims that no irregularities occurred.” His remarks appeared to diverge from Congress’s stance, leading to unease within party circles.
Nagender also reiterated his previous criticism of the Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HyDRA), stating that its activities had caused harm to the public. Despite his newfound affiliation with Congress, he stood by his earlier comments, emphasizing the need to protect citizens, whom he described as a crucial vote bank. He urged Congress leaders to take proactive measures to rebuild public trust, reminding them of the party’s poor performance in Hyderabad, where it failed to secure even a single seat.
In a pointed statement, Nagender warned Hyderabad police officials against overreach, specifically addressing a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the city. He remarked, “Threatening people with cases and excessive policing will only tarnish the image of the government and the Chief Minister.”
