Ex-AP Minister Kakani Booked in ₹250 Cr Mining Scam
Andhra Pradesh: Following the formation of the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, several cases have been registered against key leaders and former ministers of the previous administration.
In a recent development, the police have booked former minister and senior YSRCP leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy from Nellore district on charges of illegally transporting quartz ore from Rustum Mines in Tatiparthi, Podalakur Mandal.
During the previous YSRCP government, allegations surfaced that quartz worth approximately ₹250 crore was illegally mined and transported from Rustum Mine. After the mine’s lease expired, YSRCP leaders allegedly continued mining operations and stockpiled explosives for rock blasting. The issue gained traction when former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy staged a protest at the site, handing over seized gelatin sticks to authorities.
Despite complaints, the then-state government failed to act, prompting Somireddy to escalate the matter to the central government. In response, the Centre directed the state’s Chief Secretary to take immediate action, leading to a slowdown in mining activities.
After the TDP-led coalition assumed power, Somireddy lodged another complaint, prompting a fresh government investigation. As a result, cases were filed against ten individuals, with YSRCP leader Pernati Shyam Prasad Reddy named as A1, followed by Vakati Shiva Reddy (A2), Vakati Srinivasulu Reddy (A3), and Kakani Govardhan Reddy (A4).
Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway, and necessary legal action will follow.
