From Next Year, Five Types of Schools to Be Introduced in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced its decision to implement a new educational system

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced its decision to implement a new educational system featuring five distinct types of schools starting next year. As part of this reform, the government plans to revoke GO 117, introduced by the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) administration. Prior to finalizing the new framework, authorities will seek suggestions and feedback from teachers, students, and parents.

One of the key elements of the reform includes reinstating Grades 3, 4, and 5, which were previously removed and merged into primary and upper primary schools by the former government in 4,731 schools. The government also intends to eliminate the current primary-upgraded schools and either upgrade them further or revert them to primary schools, depending on student numbers.

Additionally, the government has decided to discontinue the High School Plus system, which currently combines high school with intermediate education. Intermediate-level classes will now be brought under the jurisdiction of the Intermediate Education Department. This decision will be based on student enrollment data as of December 31 of the previous year.

The implementation of the five-category school model will consider various factors such as proximity to national highways, railway lines, bridges, and school distances.

Five Types of Schools in the New Model:

  • Satellite Foundation Schools: Anganwadi centers offering pre-primary education for Levels 1 and 2 (LKG and UKG) will be converted into satellite foundation schools.
  • Foundation Schools: Schools offering pre-primary education Levels 1 and 2 along with Grades 1 and 2 will be established as foundation schools.
  • Basic Primary Schools: Schools providing pre-primary education Levels 1 and 2 along with Grades 1 to 5 will function as basic primary schools.
  • Model Primary Schools: One model primary school will be set up in each village panchayat, ward, and division. These schools will offer pre-primary Levels 1 and 2 as well as Grades 1 to 5.
  • High Schools: Schools offering Grades 6 to 10 will be classified as high schools.
