Chevireddy Faces Setback in High Court as Quash Petition Rejected

YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy received a setback from the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday.

YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy received a setback from the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday. The court rejected his petition seeking to quash the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case registered against him. Chevireddy's quash petition was dismissed following earlier complaints that he had allegedly made false statements on social media regarding a 14-year-old girl’s assault case.

The case originated from allegations by a young girl in Yerravaripalem Mandal, Tirupati district, who reported to her parents that she had been attacked by unknown assailants while returning from school. She claimed that masked men had stopped her and made her consume a sedative. Upon learning about the incident, former MLA and YSRCP leader Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy visited the girl’s school and stated that the girl had been subjected to sexual assault. He assured support for the victim and her family.

In response to Chevireddy’s statements, the police conducted a medical examination of the girl, which concluded that no sexual assault had occurred. Following Chevireddy’s remarks and subsequent social media posts, the girl’s father filed a complaint against him, accusing him of making baseless claims without verifying facts. Based on this complaint, the police registered a POCSO case against Chevireddy. Seeking relief, Chevireddy approached the High Court, but the court has now declined to dismiss the case.
