A mishap occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of Tummala Babu as chairman of the Kakinada Urban Development Authority (KUDA) when the stage suddenly collapsed, causing chaos. TDP leaders, including former ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Nimmakayala Chinnarajappa, along with several MLAs and MLCs, fell off the stage.
Chinnarajappa and Pantham Nanaji sustained minor injuries. The event, organized by the Kakinada district Jana Sena Party President, saw a large gathering of MLAs and cadres from coalition parties in attendance. The incident occurred as Vedic scholars were blessing Tummala Babu post-swearing-in when the overloaded stage gave way. Eyewitnesses reported that the stage, designed to accommodate 50 people, collapsed under the weight of over 200 attendees who climbed onto it simultaneously.
Activists at the venue promptly assisted the leaders, seating them on chairs and ensuring no serious injuries occurred. Following the collapse, local activists alerted emergency services, and 108 medical staff provided first aid to the injured. While the incident caused alarm among party members and attendees, no major casualties were reported. Earlier in the day,
Tummala Babu organized a grand rally from Pithapuram to the KUDA office in Kakinada, with hundreds of activists participating. The unexpected mishap at the ceremony dampened the celebratory atmosphere, leaving party ranks in shock.
