BJP’s Purandeshwari defends Modi govt on Ambedkar legacy

Andhra Pradesh BJP President Daggubati Purandeshwari has strongly criticized Congress leaders for spreading misinformation about the Modi government and its stance on the Constitution. Speaking at the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations held at the BJP office in Vijayawada on Saturday, she accused the Congress of misleading the public by alleging that the BJP would alter the Constitution to remove reservations.

Purandeshwari pointed out that the Constitution has been amended numerous times under Congress rule, and emphasized that the 22 amendments made by the BJP were aimed at uplifting marginalized communities and ensuring social justice. She alleged that Congress was spreading such narratives for political gain, especially to appeal to the Muslim vote bank.

She condemned DK Shivakumar's recent remarks about the Constitution being changed for four percent Muslim reservation, saying it was misleading and unfounded. "Prime Minister Modi himself has said he became PM as a BC, thanks to the Constitution. How can we think of changing it?" she said.

During her address, she reiterated that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar worked tirelessly for an equitable society, and the BJP has always honored his legacy. She cited initiatives like the development of five key locations as "Panch Teerth" related to Ambedkar's life and legacy, and reminded that it was the BJP that gave him due respect by placing his portrait in Parliament and awarding him the Bharat Ratna.

She also called on BJP leaders and karyakartas to raise awareness at the grassroots level and educate the public on the BJP’s contributions to social justice and Ambedkar’s vision. Booth-level programs are being conducted as part of the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations across the state.

The event was attended by BJP National Vice President D.K. Aruna, Somu Veerraju, Dayakar Reddy, Gudise Devanand, Wilson, and other party leaders.
