AP govt to confer top MPs & MLAs with awards for public service

In a bid to enhance public engagement with elected representatives, the Andhra Pradesh coalition government has introduced a unique initiative to recognize MPs and MLAs who actively address public concerns and advocate for their resolution in legislative bodies.

According to official sources, the government will confer awards on legislators who raise critical public issues in the Assembly and Parliament. This initiative is designed to be non-partisan, ensuring that awards are granted irrespective of political affiliations.

The goal is to motivate representatives to engage closely with the public and amplify their voices in legislative discussions. Under this plan, MLAs who effectively voice public grievances in the Assembly will receive the "Uttama Legislator" award, while MPs advocating for public concerns in Parliament will be honored with the "Uttama Parliamentarian" award.

Selection will be based on performance and conduct within legislative sessions. To ensure a fair selection process, the government is establishing a special committee to evaluate MPs and MLAs based on their engagement with public issues. This committee will be responsible for finalizing the awardees, reinforcing the government's commitment to accountable and responsive governance.
