Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy has made a dramatic plea, stating he is willing to hold the feet of prominent industrialist Gautam Adani to bring a container port back to Krishnapatnam. The removal of the container port by the Adani Group has led to the direct loss of 10,000 jobs and a significant economic blow to Andhra Pradesh, he lamented. During a question-and-answer session in the Assembly, MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy expressed his sorrow and frustration over the Adani Group’s decision.

He emphasized the severe impact on the local economy, highlighting that the port’s relocation has led to the loss of thousands of crore for the State. “The container port should be brought back to Krishnapatnam, and for that, I am willing to beg Adani,” he stated. He questioned the logic behind replacing the container port with a bulk cargo port primarily used for moving ash, pointing out the significant loss to the aqua industry alone, estimated at Rs. 1,000 crore. Krishnapatnam Port has been a crucial hub for importing construction equipment for Amaravati.

The port’s removal, according to Reddy, has disrupted activities in various Special Economic Zones (SEZs) spread across 25,000 acres. He questioned the benefit of replacing the container port with a bulk cargo port, primarily used for moving ash, and asked what would become of the land originally allocated for the port. Reddy also highlighted the significant losses to the aqua industry, amounting to Rs. 1,000 crore, due to the port’s relocation. He directed his anger towards the Maritime Board, questioning its role in the matter
