Amaravati: Tension at Loyola College
Walkers from Loyola College have begun a protest in Vijayawada. Tension has escalated at Loyola College over this issue.
For the past 25 years, residents of the city have used the college grounds for walking under the name of the Loyola College Walkers. However, citing Covid-19 concerns, the college management has imposed restrictions, allowing only IAS and IPS officers to walk on the premises. As a result, the Loyola College Walkers have expressed their anger towards the college management's actions and have gone on strike to protest.
The Loyola Walkers Club is a significant organization with nearly 3,000 members. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the college shut down the walking track, and the association has been advocating for its reopening ever since. Coalition leaders had promised to restore access to the walking track once the coalition government came to power. When the Loyola College management denied their repeated requests to reopen the track, city residents staged a dharna in front of the college. Frustrated by the locked gates, they broke them open and started walking inside.
