Nayanthara Joins Ajith & Kamal Haasan in Dropping Star Titles
Name tags, especially those with the ‘Star’ label, are a common trend in the Indian film industry. While some actors insist on using these titles for branding and screen presence, others prefer to be recognized solely by their names, distancing themselves from such honorary tags.
Earlier, actor Ajith made it clear that he no longer wanted to be referred to as ‘Thala’ and even disbanded his official fan clubs. More recently, Kamal Haasan issued a statement requesting that he no longer be addressed by titles like ‘Ulaganayagan’. Now, joining this growing list, actress Nayanthara has expressed her desire to drop the ‘Lady Superstar’ tag and simply be called Nayanthara.
In an official statement, she acknowledged the love and admiration behind the title, stating, “Many have graciously referred to me as ‘Lady Superstar,’ a title born out of fans’ immense affection, and I owe them for bestowing me with such an honor.” However, she made a heartfelt request to be addressed by her name alone, as it holds deep personal significance. “It represents who I am—not just as an actor but as an individual,” she wrote.
She further emphasized that while titles and accolades are priceless, they can sometimes create a barrier between an artist, their craft, and the unconditional bond they share with their audience. “I want my work to speak for itself,” she concluded.
With more stars choosing to shed their titles, the shift signals a growing trend of actors prioritizing authenticity over labels in the film industry.
