Perusu: A Bold Comedy by Reddy Brothers
A. Kodandarami Reddy, one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Telugu cinema, is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement. However, the legacy of storytelling runs strong in his family, as both his sons have carved a niche for themselves in the Tamil film industry.
After making his debut with Godava in Telugu, Vaibhav Reddy found consistent success in Tamil cinema. His elder brother, Sunil Reddy, has also emerged as a notable actor. The duo recently teamed up for the Tamil film Perusu, which has been creating quite a buzz.
Released in theatres on March 15 and now streaming on Netflix, Perusu is a light-hearted adult comedy with an unusual yet intriguing premise. Directed by Ilango Ram and produced by acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, the film is an adaptation of the 2023 Sri Lankan film Tentigo.
Sunil Reddy plays Sami, a schoolteacher, while Vaibhav Reddy portrays his younger brother Durai. Their tranquil life is thrown into chaos following the sudden death of their father. The twist? Even in death, their father’s body exhibits an erection—an odd but central element that drives the plot.
While the premise may initially seem bizarre or even offbeat, Perusu steers clear of crude humor. Instead, it opts for tasteful comedy and centers on the brothers' heartfelt attempts to preserve their late father’s dignity. The film strikes a delicate balance between humor and emotion, offering audiences an unexpectedly endearing story.
Perusu is now streaming on Netflix and is also available in Telugu, expanding its reach to a wider audience.
