The Rana Daggubati Show Episode 5 Review
If you thought that the Rana Daggubati show invites guests from the Telugu film industry, then the makers have decided to challenge that idea. In the latest episode, Rana is seen travelling to Keradi, Karanataka to meet Rishab Shetty.
The guest on the show is a National award-winning actor and director who rose to global fame with the Kannada fim Kantara.
Minutes into the show, we are told that Rana doesn't know Kannada and Rishab can't speak Telugu—so how will the two converse? Well, this would surprise you since the actors decide to begin their conversation by talking in Tamil.
Eventually, Rishab Shetty talks in Hindi and later shifts to Kannada - a truly multilingual episode.
We are first introduced to Rishab Shetty at the school he studied in, which is located in the forest. We are told that he has adopted the school through his foundation, to invite more kids to complete education. However, he also reveals that he never passed sixth grade, while Rana also opens up the secret about failing tenth grade.
Later, DJ Tillu actor Neha Shetty enters the chat, as someone who can speak Kannada fluently. Given that Rana was enjoying Rishab talk passionately about his life, it didn't seem like a translator was required.
One interesting aspect of the episode was when rishab Shetty opened up about his hardships. He said he learnt Tamil by watching a lot of films, especially the comedy genre and said he is a fan of the later Vivek, Vadivelu, Senthil and Goundamani. Ask him about his fluency in Hindi, he said he worked as an office boy and later a driver to a film producer where he learnt the language.
Rishab's inclination towards cinema came when he began working in theatre, and was encouraged in college to pursue the field due to his ability to perform in plays and mimic actors well. Rishab also spoke about his first meeting with actor-director Rakshit Shetty, and how their friendship took off in the most unlikely way.
We are also shown a glimpse of his love story, from his wife Pragathi and their meet-cute moment. Pragathi works as a costume designer in the Kannada film industry. She has designed the costumes for Kantara and is working on Kantara Chapter 1 as well.
Towards the end of the episode, Rana and Rishab walk on the shores of the beach, talking about the heritage of the latter's hometown, and what really matters in storytelling.
As the show ends, one can notice Rana's gleeful smile and relaxed demeanour reflecting the fact that he loved the pristine location - away from the hustle of the city - while absorbing Rishab Shetty's fresh perspective on cinema.
