Social welfare minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy stated in the Assembly on Wednesday that the volunteer system in Andhra Pradesh no longer exists, with no volunteers working in the State since August 2023.
The minister clarified that the system was not renewed by the previous government, and volunteers had resigned before the last election. While the G.O for volunteers was extended until August 2023, it was not renewed in September, leading to the discontinuation of salaries.
"We paid salaries to volunteers until May 2023. If there were volunteers, we would have continued their services. The Chief Minister had also suggested examining the continuation of volunteers, but there is no life force in the system now," said the minister.
