Lokesh personally participates in a cleanliness drive
Minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh has vowed to transform Mangalagiri into a model city for cleanliness, emphasizing that necessary steps will be taken to make it No. 1 in sanitation management. As part of the Swachhandhra program at Eco Park near Mangalagiri AIIMS, Lokesh personally participated in a cleanliness drive, collecting garbage and disposing of it in a dustbin.
Speaking at the program, Lokesh highlighted the need for greater public awareness regarding sanitation and environmental cleanliness. He announced plans for a door-to-door campaign in Mangalagiri constituency to educate residents on the importance of maintaining hygiene. During the event, the minister interacted with sanitation worker M Nagarjuna, inquiring about his well-being and commending sanitation workers for their dedication.
He pointed out that while people follow cleanliness rules abroad, they tend to ignore them locally, stressing the need for a collective sense of responsibility. Lokesh further stated that upgrading Mangalagiri’s infrastructure, including underground drainage, water supply, gas, and power facilities, would resolve most of the city's sanitation issues.
He revealed that Rs. 3 crore is being allocated for the modernization of local ponds. Following the program, the minister felicitated sanitation worker Nagarjuna with a shawl. Representatives of the Nature Walkers Association also expressed gratitude to Lokesh for personally funding Rs. 5 lakh to provide free entry for Mangalagiri residents walking in Eco Park.
