Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita has directed Vijayawada city police commissioner Rajasekhar Babu to register cases against those responsible for the attack on police during the clashes in Penuganchiprolu, Lakshmi Tirupatamma Thirunallu.
Expressing strong disapproval, Anita condemned the stone-pelting incident by YSRCP activists, stating that such attacks on law enforcement are unacceptable. She pointed out that police personnel and devotees sustained injuries after water packets, bottles, and stones were hurled during the altercation.
The minister inquired about the condition of Jaggayyapet CI Venkateswarlu, who was seriously injured, and ordered that the injured receiving treatment at Nandigama Hospital be provided with the best medical care. She warned in a strong tone that assaults on police officers, who are meant to protect and control the situation, will not be tolerated.
The violence erupted during the Prabha procession in Penuganchiprolu, NTR district, which was held under the leadership of TDP, Janasena, and YSRCP leaders. The situation turned tense when Prabha from YSRCP approached the procession, leading to a scuffle.
According to police reports, YSRCP activists threw water packets, bottles, and stones, prompting officers to intervene. However, activists also turned on the police, attacking them as well. As a result, four police personnel and several others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to the hospital, and police have registered cases against those involved in the provocative attack.
