AP to implement district-based SC Classification: CM Chandrababu

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced the district-based implementation of Scheduled Caste (SC) classification in Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the local SC population proportions. A dedicated commission will soon be established to conduct a comprehensive study, with a report expected within a month to expedite upcoming job notifications.

During a meeting at Secretariat, Social Welfare Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneyaswamy, along with Dalit MLAs from the TDP and Jana Sena, discussed SC classification and Dalit welfare initiatives. Naidu emphasized the need to ensure fair opportunities for all Dalit sub-castes, proposing reservations at the district, zonal, and state levels to prevent any group from being overlooked.

MLAs suggested simplifying reservation categories from four to three (A, B, and C) and merging Adi Andhra and other social groups under existing categories. Naidu expressed support for this proposal and hinted at considering reservations similar to Tamil Nadu's 18 per cent SC quota, adapted to Andhra Pradesh’s SC population.

Reflecting on past initiatives, Naidu cited the TDP's longstanding commitment to Dalit welfare, including the Justice Punnaiah Commission's work on social justice and GO 25’s fund allocations since 2014. With recent Supreme Court guidance, Naidu reiterated his intent to fulfill electoral promises through SC classification.

For the development of Dalits, Naidu outlined plans to enhance hostels, Gurukuls, skill development programs, and business support. The CM affirmed that Dalit MLAs’ success would remain a priority, with 27 of 29 SC constituencies won by alliance candidates in recent elections, and the goal to reelect these MLAs in 2029. Regular discussions with Dalit MLAs will continue, with a focus on effective communication of government efforts to the public and proposals for new community welfare programs.
